dc.description.abstract An instrument to measure the rate of leaf emergence in the banana on a continuous basis is described. Some data obtained from its use are presented. The proportion of day and night growth depends upon whether temperature or moisture are limiting factors. Leaf emergence rates ceased at an ambient temperature of less than 50F. Diurnal variation in leaf growth was reduced in the later stages of emergence of any one leaf. A nil to four hour lag period occurred in the plant's response to temperature change.
