He has been an active member of the New England Branch of the Society for many years, has regularly provided producer input to its Committee particularly on programming of meetings, and in 1982 to 1984 made substantial contributions to the affairs of the Society as a member of the 15th Federal Council. Major objectives of the Society include promotion of the interests of animal production and the interchange of ideas and Evan Barnet has given great effect to these. As well as his work for ASAP, he has frequently welcomed overseas visitors and University and other students to his property where they see best practice in operation and learn of Evans experience in pasture improvement and animal production. He has also been of much assistance to CSIRO and University research by making facilities of his property available for studies of pastures and on problems in animal nutrition and behaviour. He has furthered the interests of animal production in many other ways, and in so doing has also served the wider community. Thus he was President of Walcha Shire from 1974 to 1983, and a member of the Council of the University of New England from 1976 to 1980. He is an active member, and was for some years Chairman, of Superfine Woolgrowers Association, and in recent years has been a Trustee of the New England Regional Art Museum. He continues to be active in pasture improvement, Landcare, the breeding of fine Merinos, and in beef cattle improvement. For his service to the Society and contributions to the advancement of animal production the Australian Society of Animal Production is pleased to elect him an Honorary member. NARELLE YVONNE MORSE Narelle Morse, nee Webber, BScAgr. (Syd), MRurSc and DipEd (UNE), worked in Sydney for three years after gaining her degree in 1964. She was State Secretary for Produce Commodities, a graziers organisation that subsequently amalgamated with others to form the NSW Farmers Association. She joined the Sydney Branch of the Society in 1965. On moving to Armidale in 1968 she transferred to the New England Branch and since then has worked consistently and energetically as Committee Member, as Branch President, and twice as a Member of Federal Council (the 15th and 22nd) to advance the purpose of the Society. In particular, she has done much, in the words of the Societys Constitution, to promote and encourage the interchange of ideas in the field of animal production. She has for a long time been a contributor of informative reports to the Societys Newsletter and, moreover, has brought the activities of ASAP to much wider attention by her many contributions of articles made regularly over many years to the rural press, both regional and national. These articles have included detailed reports of talks at Society meetings, on results of CSIRO, State Department, and University research on animal production, and on new farming practices, technological innovations, and notable agricultural personalities. For her eminent service to the Society and outstanding work on the interchange of ideas the Australian Society of Animal Society of Animal Production is pleased to elect her an Honorary Member. xi
